Beauty from within: How herbs as food influence skin health.

Skin care starts on the plate

Healthy skin isn't just about external care—our diet also plays a crucial role. Herbs, in particular, often underestimated as mere spices, are rich in valuable ingredients that can have a positive effect on the skin's appearance and health. As a tea, fresh ingredient, or component of smoothies, they provide antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory agents with profound effects. In this article, we take a look at how herbs contribute to skin care from the inside out—and what this has to do with Quellmed Skincare products.

Herbs and skin care

Herbs as natural skin supporters

Many herbs contain high concentrations of bioactive plant compounds, vitamins, and minerals. These not only work in the body but also have positive effects on the skin. For example, rosemary, with its antioxidant properties, helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Parsley provides a high level of vitamin C, which promotes collagen formation. Chamomile has a soothing effect, especially on sensitive or irritated skin. Sage and thyme, with their antimicrobial properties, help with skin imperfections.

Regularly incorporating these herbs into your diet—for example, through teas, herbal blends, or freshly chopped leaves—can help reduce inflammation, strengthen the skin barrier, and promote the skin's natural radiance.

The influence of nutrition on the skin

The skin reflects our inner balance. A nutrient-rich, plant-based diet can contribute to a clearer, more even complexion over the long term. Herbs play a special role here, as they provide a variety of skin-relevant micronutrients in concentrated form. Their phytochemicals have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and regulating effects on the skin's microbiome. At the same time, certain ingredients promote blood circulation and support skin regeneration.

Not only in cases of acne or blemishes, but also in cases of dry, sensitive or mature skin, a targeted diet with herbs often shows visible improvements.

Use herbs for everyday use

Herbs can be easily incorporated into everyday life – without complicated recipes. Fresh herbs like parsley, basil, or coriander not only enhance dishes but also provide valuable nutrients. A rosemary or chamomile tea in the evening can have a calming effect while also providing antioxidant support. Smoothies with mint or lemon balm are refreshing and strengthen the skin from within. Hot infusions with sage or thyme are also easy to prepare and can provide anti-inflammatory benefits.

Natural care meets inner balance

A look into the future: Rosemary in the new shampoo

We are currently working with a local, family-run manufacturer to develop new shampoos – both liquid and solid. Rosemary is being used for the first time as a plant-based active ingredient. With its circulation-stimulating, clarifying, and soothing properties, rosemary is particularly suitable for sensitive or easily irritated scalps. The new products complement our existing range in a natural way and remain true to our clear philosophy: honest, effective skin and hair care based on healing spring water and carefully selected ingredients.

The official product launch will follow shortly – a little preview of what’s to come.
